Sara tidied the kitchen, her stomach growling like a caged lion. She opened the refrigerator: light, echo, and a depressed lemon. She closed it. She took a deep breath as she rummaged through the drawers.

“Valentina! I’m starving!”

A soft, dangerous voice came from the sofa:

“Me, on the other hand… I’m too full.”

Valentina appeared in the kitchen, rubbing her belly with a guilty smile.

“You’re late.”

Valentina said, “I’ll give you a bite,” and shared it directly into Sara’s mouth. It wasn’t just sharing; it was laughter, a challenge, a spark.

Sara smiled as they pulled away.

“You definitely taste better this way.”

Valentina burst out laughing.
