Laura was nervous. It was the first time she’d been asked to help change little Natasha’s diaper. Natasha watched her from the bed with a mischievous smile, as if she knew she was about to embark on quite an adventure.

“Okay, little one, be good to me,” Laura said, taking a deep breath.

She carefully opened the diaper, just as she’d been instructed. Natasha started wiggling her little legs, and Laura let out a nervous giggle.

“Oh, don’t move so much, it’s my first time.”

Little by little, Laura cleaned the diaper, afraid of doing it wrong, but also with immense tenderness. Each time she made progress, she smiled contentedly, as if completing a secret mission.

Finally, she put on the new diaper, adjusted it as best she could, and raised her arms in victory.

 Done! I did it!

Natasha responded with a huge smile and a babble that sounded like applause. Laura felt immense pride; maybe it wasn’t perfect, but she did it with love.

And in that moment, she understood that first times are always scary, but they also make your heart bigger.
