I’m in the bathroom, that little space where everything calms down. I really need to poop and pee, so I sit down patiently. To pass the time, I pick up a newspaper and read it while I let my smelly shit out into the toilet. The smell is so gentle, almost intimate, and the pages turn slowly. Between readings, I finish and breathe a sigh of relief because everything is a mess, full of poop. Thank goodness Dad taught me.
